Rent a Car in Costa Rica

Traveling to Central America?

Central America is a subcontinent with an area of about 201,838 square miles and a population of about 45 million. It’s made up of 7 countries (Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Belice, El Salvador, Panamáand Nicaragua), and borders both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, which are connected by the Panama Canal.

Traveling by rental car through the countries of Central America can be a unique adventure taking you through colonial cities, indigenous communities, threatening volcanoes, winding mountains, wild jungles, forests, huge lakes, and dreamy beaches.

In Costa Rica for example it’s possible to visit Tortuguero National Park, a natural paradise full of animals such as pumas, manatees, crocodiles, iguanas, and monkeys. The lush vegetation includes more than 2,000 plant species and 400 tree species. And of course this is where you can marvel at the spawning of the green turtles in the navigable canals and natural lakes.

You can also drive your rental car to Belize and enjoy almost 250 miles of spectacular beaches including Half Moon Caye, Ambergris Caye or Península de Placencia. There are many water activities such as diving, snorkeling, kayaking, and fishing in this gorgeous area. Belize also boasts Mayan Ruins and jungle excursions.

And if you go to Panama there’s nothing like visiting the canal, the awesome and spectacular man made passage connecting the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific ocean through the Panamanian Isthmus, which has helped the commercial expansion of many countries around the world.

Visitors to Nicaragua can visit Volcano Telica at and altitude of 3,481 feet, one of the most active in the country. And going to Leon by rental car along a road full of pot-holes you’ll be certain to see molten lava.

In El Salvador you can visit the Metropolitan Cathedral, which houses the tomb of Monsignor Romero who dedicated his life to helping the poor and was assassinated while protesting the violence in his country at the end of the 1970’s. His history was cinematically portrayed by director Oliver Stone in the film Salvador.

Those who take their rental cars to Honduras should visit The Islands of Bahia, another ideal location for diving and snorkeling. The bay has 3 islands: Roatán, Utila and Guanaja. In Roatánthere is at International Airport and 2 Cruise Ports.

A trip through Central America can be an exciting once in a lifetime journey. Take time to plan patiently, rent a car with GPS and set out to create great memories and stories that will last your whole life.
