The McCarran International Airport is the largest commercial airport in Las Vegas and Clark County, Nevada. It is located in the town of Paradise, 5 miles South of the business district in Las Vegas, and about 40 million passengers, from the United States and around the world, travel through its terminals annually.
The McCarran International Airport covers an area of 2,800 acres, with four runways and two passenger terminals. It also has flight terminals for government use, cargo and private planes. Terminal 1 has 96 gates distributed throughout 4 rooms, and Terminal 3 has 14 gates, with the first 7 used for international flights.
McCarran International Airport also offers currency exchange services, ATM machines, mail, meeting rooms and Wi-Fi; in addition to restaurants, cafes, bars, shops and—only in Las Vegas slot machines. It also has a medical center, a gym, aviation museum and art exhibitions.
The McCarran International Airport has covered and uncovered parking in each of the terminals for short and long stays. In all parking areas there are spaces reserved for handicapped and Valet Parking.
A blue and white bus, which runs every 5 minutes, takes all arriving passengers to the McCarran Rent a Car Center, located at 7135 Gilespie Street, about 1.8 miles from the airport. In the baggage claim area, are the counters of major car rentalcompanies like Alamo, National, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Thrifty, Hertz, etc.
It is important to know that you can get the best rental rates through pre-booking a vehicle with online promotions that sites like RentingCarz usually offer. Once you have made the online booking, you just have to present your voucher with the confirmation number at the counter, along with a driver's license and a credit card under the name on the reservation.
Leaving the airport in Las Vegas with a rental car is relatively simple. The McCarran Rent a Car Center has easy freeway access to Interstates 15 (which crosses through Las Vegas via Los Angeles to Salt Lake City), 215 (connecting the north and south of Las Vegas, to Henderson, Arizona) and the Strip (Las Vegas Boulevard), the Southern tip of which is only 5 miles from the airport.
Renting a car in Las Vegas is very convenient because it gives you fexibility when staying in more remote (and economic) areas; and it also allows you to move freely around the city. For those who also want to take advantage of their time in Las Vegas (and make it a stress-free stay), it is a good idea to rent a rental car with a GPS in your language and all insurance included.
