Roadtrip: Mulholland Drive in your Rental Car
{{blogInfo}}

Los Angeles is an amazing city. With so much to see and visit there’s no other way to do it than by car. So the best option for those visiting the city is go to a car rental shop, choose an auto to rent that fits your family’s needs, make sure it has GPS in your language, and start your adventure.

And for adventure nothing is better than a trip along Mulholland, one of the most famous natural scenes in the world that stretches from the Hollywood Hills along the Santa Monica mountains toward the Pacific Ocean. The route promises the best views of the city, with incredible panoramas, as lovely to contemplate as to photograph.

Mulholland Drive is also very bound to cinema, ever since the David Lynch movie of the same name was filmed there. Mulholland Drive is also know as “Bad Boy Drive”, because some of Hollywood’s celebrity ‘bad boys’including Marlon Brando, Warren Beatty, and Jack Nicholson have lived there. The road has also been linked to music since being mentioned in songs by such famous artists as Tom Petty and REM.

If you go along driving your rented auto and are not familiar with the way, it’s good to know that the majority of the road has 2 lanes. As you advance west you have views of Los Angeles, Burbank, Universal City, and the rest of the San Fernando Valley. A few kilometers west of Highway 405, you’ll cross the summit of the mountains. Past Encino Hills Drive you’ll arrive at Topanga Canyon Boulevard. Then Mulholland Drive divides into Mulholland and Mulholland Drive which terminates at Highway 101 and becomes Valley Circle Boulevard.

To arrive to Mulholland Drive in your rental car you can take Highland Avenue to Cahuenga Blvd West, coming from Hollywood. Or take Hwy 101 to Barham and later Cahuenga Blvd West, coming from Downtown Los Angeles and from anywhere south or east. Take Beverly Glen if coming from Westwood, Century City, or Beverly Hills. Or take Hwy 405 or Sepulveda Blvd if coming from West LA.

Some views not to be missed along the way:

Arriving at 6272 Mulholland Drive in your rented car, you’ll have one of the best perspectives of the mythic Hollywood Sign. Each letter measures 15 by 9 meters. The complete word is 80 meters wide and can be seen from 50 kilometers away. It’s not possible to get close to the letters because they are protected by a fence. From the lookout at Hollywood Bowl at 7036 Mulholland Drive you have an incredible view of Los Angeles and of Hollywood. And from the Nancy Hoover Pohl lookout at 8401 Mulholland Drive you can appreciate the spectacular panorama of the San Fernando Valley.
