Car Rental Requirements in Miami

All car rental companies require that each car rental customer and additional driver meet the minimum age requirement, present a valid driver's license from your country of origin with an acceptable driving record, and present an honored charge card, debit card or cash rental qualification at the time of rental. All forms of identification and forms of payments must be under the same name as the driver or additional driver of the car rental.

Minimum Age Requirement: All car rental companies rent to individuals 25 years of age and over. Car rental companies will also rent to individuals 21 - 24 years of age with an additional underage surcharge. This surcharge can be anywhere from USD$27 - $35 per day. Exceptions may apply. Not all car classes may be available to rent to 21 - 24 years of age individuals.

Valid forms of Identification: The driver's license must be valid at the time of rental, and remain valid throughout the rental period. Customer with a foreign driver’s license (other than a U.S. or Canadian driver’s license) may be required to also present a valid passport as a secondary form of identification at the time of the car rental return. The name on the passport must match the name displayed on the foreign driver’s license. If the driver’s license is not in Roman alphabet, an international driver’s license will be required. In some cases, the car rental company may also request to see a return air ticket or itinerary for international renters.

Valid forms of Payments: All car rental companies require either a valid charge card or a valid bank debit card with the Visa or MasterCard logo be presented at the time of rental. The rental locations will perform a credit check for debit card renters to determine credit worthiness at the time of rental. Some car rental companies may also allow cash deposits as an exception.

When paying your rental with a Debit Card, a request for an authorization hold against your account for the amount of estimated charges of the rental will be placed. The funds placed on hold will not be available for your use until the rental is over and funds are reversed. The time it takes for reversal of funds to reflect on your account depends on your individual bank. Not all rental locations outside the U.S. accept debit cards as form of payment.
