Those visiting Miami or other cities in Florida shouldn’t miss out on visiting the Miami Seaquarium, the largest aquarium in the United States. Each year around 600,000 people enjoy walking through this park that is home to hundreds of fish, marine turtles, reptiles, dolphins, sea lions, and sharks. Built in 1955, this 15 acre marine park was inaugurated in a special ceremony in which it’s 751,000 gallon (2,840,000 liter) tank was filled with water from each of the 7 oceans. Miami Seaquarium is a theme park with educational activities and a museum, but is also a rescue center dedicated to rehabilitation and conservation of marine animals from south of Florida such as marine turtles and manatees. The aquarium also creates programs in which the visiting public can donate to support the wellbeing of marine animals, in programs such as Sponsor a Sirenian, Manatee Brick Program, and Adopt a Sea Turtle Nest.
